    To promote high-quality science education, research, and training, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, has set up seven Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs) at Berhampur, Bhopal, Kolkata, Mohali, Pune, Thiruvananthapuram, and Tirupati.

    About BS-MS Degree Programme

    It is a five year degree program for bright and motivated science students who have passed (10+2) level. The program integrates classroom learning with research and provides ample scope for multidisciplinary interactions. The first two years of the program consist of core courses in basic sciences, the third and fourth years are dedicated to specialization in chosen science subjects and the fifth year includes a research project. The training during the program enables students to pursue a career in academia, R&D institutes, and science-based industries.

    Admission Schedule for BS-MS Degree Programme 2018

    Application portal for admission to all IISERs for the academic year 2018 will open on 21st May, 2018

    Below are the important dates for IISER BS-MS admissions for the year 2018.

    1. KVPY

    Application portal opens- 21.05.2018 at 9:00 AM
    Last date for applications 09.06.2018 till 12:00 noon
    List of allotted candidates published- 13.06.2018
    List of Alloted Candidates will be published on 14.06.2018 
    Submission of SAF begins- 14.06.2018
    Last Date for submission of SAF- 19.06.2018

    2. JEE

    KVPY scholars admitted to IISERs would draw fellowship as per KVPY norms. In addition, a limited number of INSPIRE scholarships will be available for candidates admitted through JEE Advanced and SCB channel as applicable as per the norms prescribed by DST INSPIRE scheme. This supersedes all earlier announcements regarding scholarship.


    There are three channels of admission. Candidates will be admitted to IISER only through these channels.

    1. Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) channel
    2. Joint Entrance Examination of Indian Institutes of Technology (JEE) channel
    3. State and Central Boards Channel (SCB) channel
    These channels will be referred to as KVPY, JEE and SCB respectively

    Indian nationals, and students belonging to PIO or OCI category are eligible to apply provided they satisfy the eligibility criteria described below.

    KVPY Channel

    Candidates having a valid KVPY fellowship commencing from 2018-19 academic session are eligible to apply for admissions. Additional cut off criteria may be applicable.

    JEE Channel

    Candidates in General category securing a rank within 10000 in the Common Rank List (CRL) of JEE Advanced 2018 are eligible to apply. For candidates belonging to reserved category (OBCNC, SC, ST, PD), their category rank should be within 10000.

    SCB Channel

    Students who have passed (10+2) level with science stream in 2017 or 2018 with marks equal or above the cut off percentage in their respective boards are eligible to apply. For the candidates belonging to the Non-Creamy Layer of the Other Backward Classes (OBCNC) and Persons with Disability (PD) categories, there is a 5% relaxation. The cut-off percentage for the Scheduled Castes (SC), the Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Kashmiri Migrants (KM) candidates is 55% in (10+2) level for all boards. 
    Students applying through SCB channel will have to appear in the IISER Aptitude Test which will be conducted at various centres across the country. To calculate your percentage of marks obtained, use the percentage calculation method adopted by your board.

    How to Apply for IISER 

    All forms must be submitted only through “Apply Now” link provided at the admission homepage (www.iiseradmission.in). Any other form of application will not be entertained.

    Only one application from an eligible candidate with valid details would be accepted for each channel. Applications with incorrect or unverifiable information will be rejected at any stage during the admission process.

    Candidates should preview their entire application form before final submission. Please note that details in application form such as name, email, mobile no., application no., category, Kashmiri Migrant status, disability status, etc., cannot be changed after final submission of online application.

    While applying online, the following would be required: personal details such as date of birth as printed on the Birth Certificate, digital copies of your passport size photo (PNG/JPG/BMP format and less than 2 MB in size) and (10+2) mark sheet (PNG/JPG/BMP format and less than 2 MB in size).

    Fee payment policy

    The JAC 2018 will receive two types of fees from candidates seeking admission to IISERs.
    Both these fees can be paid only through an electronic payment gateway as directed in the IISER Admissions website. No other form of payment is permissible.

    Application Fee

    Application fee which is to be paid by every candidate applying for admission. This fee is to be paid for every channel that the candidate chooses to apply through.
    The application fee for 2018 Admissions is Rs. 2,000/- for the GEN and OBC(NC) categories and Rs.1,000/- for other categories.
    The application fee is not refundable.

    Seat Acceptance Fee

    Seat Acceptance Fee (SAF) which is the fee to be paid by candidates who have been offered a seat as per the selection criteria decided by the JAC for each channel of admission under each category.
    1. The SAF for 2018 Admissions is Rs. 25,000/- for the GEN and OBC(NC) categories and Rs. 12,500/- for other categories.
    2. The SAF is to be paid once.
    3. The SAF constitutes a major part of the admission fee for any IISER and will be eventually transferred to the IISER which the candidate finally registers at. The respective IISER will collect the remainder of the admission fees that may be applicable, locally from the candidate upon registration at the particular IISER.
